Florence  (Tuscany): pop. 493,000 [ MAP ]

You can reach Piazzale Michelangelo across the Viale Michelangiolo (Viale dei Colli)  a splendid walk through the hills over Florence. The walk is 6 km long  and for less active people could be a good idea to take public transportation (buses start from Santa Maria Novella train station, take bus 12 or 13 (departures every 15 min)   from the train station. Main stops are: Florence SMN train station - Porta al Prato - Porta Romana - Piazzale Michelangelo - Piazza Ferrucci - Piazza Beccaria - Campo di Marte train station - Ponte Rosso -  Florence SMN train statio

Or cross the river through Ponte Vecchio and enjoy the 20 minute walk (followed by a steep stair climb) from the center of town.

You will recognize it because is has breathtaking views of the buildings of the city, Duomo, Campanile and Arno and in the center of the Piazzale emerges the Monument to Michelangelo, a perfect replica of the famous "David"( The original is preserved in Academy Museum.

Not far to Piazzale Michelangelo is the beautiful Church of St. Miniato al Monte
