Few walks from Piazzale Michelangelo is the Church of San Miniato al Monte Take a look. Access to the church is over an imposing staircase and when you arrive on the square facing the church one of the most suggesting panoramas appears opposite of you. The Romanesque facade is divided in two orders with simplicity of style. The upper part is more complex and richly decorated, displaying a 13th C mosaic with benedictory Christ and a classical style window instead of a rose window. The interior is of solemn and rare beauty, with stone columns alternating with pillars and massive arcs. The inlaid marble floor decorated with the Symbols of the Zodiac is very beautiful.

Must see:
The Mosaic of the enthroned Christ in benediction between the Madonna and St. Miniato.
The Presbytery formed by a rare Tuscan-Romanesque sculpture complex of classical inspiration
The Choir contains a mosaic of the enthroned Christ in benediction
The crypt (11th C) with the ceiling frescoed with Saints and Prophets by Taddeo Gaddi
The beautiful and refined Chapel of the Crucifix, a Renaissance marble shrine by Michelozzo
The entrance to the Sacristy, frescoed by Spinello Aretino with , maybe the artist's masterpiece. Take a look
The Renaissance Chapel of the Cardinal of Portugal (1461-66) with works by Luca della Robbia, Pollaiolo and Rossellino
The cloister with remains of the frescoes of Scenes from the lives of the Holy Fathers (1440 c.), painted by Paolo Uccello
The Monumental Cemetery (known as "of the Holy Gates") outside the Basilica, a real repertoire of Liberty, Art Deco, Rationalism and organic architecture.
Palazzo dei Vescovi (14th C) standing on the right of San Miniato al Monte, and inhabited by Olivetan Monks.
