Few walks from Piazzale Michelangelo is the Church of San Miniato
al Monte
. Access to the church is over an imposing staircase and when
you arrive on the square facing the church one of the most
suggesting panoramas appears opposite of you. The Romanesque
facade is divided in two orders with simplicity of style. The
upper part is more complex and richly decorated, displaying a
13th C mosaic with benedictory Christ and a classical style
window instead of a rose window. The interior is of solemn and
rare beauty, with stone columns alternating with pillars and
massive arcs. The inlaid marble floor decorated with the Symbols
of the Zodiac is very beautiful.
