In the historic center of Florence, everything is within
walking distance; 30 minutes is the most you would have to walk
to get from any point in the city to another However, Florence's
transportation system is easy and efficient when you need to go
outside of the center.
The easiest and most commonly used form of transportation is the bus.
Bus stops, departure schedules and route information are found on
well-marked signs throughout the city.
Bus tickets can be purchased at newspaper stands, tobacco shops
("tabacchi") and some cafés. You must validate all the bus
tickets in the boxes when boarding the first vehicle and again
after each transfer or you will risk paying a fine of about
$100. Buses generally run from 6am - 1am, and schedules vary by
route. You can get a bus map at the ATAF (the local
bus company) office across from the train station.

The time tickets allow for taking advantage of the service for the
indicated period of time, starting from the moment you stamp your
ticket, to be carried out only once and on first use (as soon as you
board the first time). All tickets must be stamped in the special
stamping machines as soon as the passenger boards the bus. In the event
of the stamping machine being out of order the passenger must try the
other stamping machines located on the bus. Any faults in the stamping
machine must be reported to the driver of the vehicle. The passenger
must check that the stamping of the ticket has been carried out
correctly. Whenever requested, all tickets, passes and any other travel
document must be presented to the ATAF personnel, both on board and at
the stop where the passenger gets off the bus.

Valid for the day of the date of stamping and two days after. It may be
purchased from the ATAF sales network.
