Next to the Duomo, on the right side, is the National Archeological Museum
preserving many Etruscan and Greek remains.
Located in the medieval Palazzo Papale, the museum holds findings from
necropolises of the Orvieto area as well as all the findings discovered
within the town itself, where valuable materials have been founded.
The collection is helded in the massive 13th C palazzo with big pointed arcs and
elegant two-light windows.
Of great interest are the detached frescos and the reconstruction of the two so-called "Tombe Golini" (Golini
tombs) featuring colored pictures on the walls
with the themes of the banquet and the journey to the underworld.
Tombs belong from the nearby Etruscan Necropoli of "Settecamini" (5 km from Orvieto).
In the large rooms burial objects, black bucchero ware and bronzes are
also on display.
