Orvieto is situated in Central Italy, between the cities of Rome, Assisi and Siena,  among three regions, Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany. Orvieto was an Etruscan City and had great importance in medieval times. Nowadays, Orvieto is an extraordinary artistic and cultural center, rich in monuments and places to visit.  The City is perched on a tufa rock, 325 mt high and    enjoys a spectacular view of the valley, streets  of Orvieto are charmingly medieval, lined with  buildings made from the volcanic stuff, and away from the main tourist routes they are pleasantly peaceful.   • The Cathedral of Orvieto: Take a look
    Be sure to stop at Orvieto’s Duomo, considered one of the world’s most beautiful cathedrals. Built in 1290 bc. is one of the masterpieces of Italian gothic architecture. Numerous works of art. ( An inside chapel holds Signorelli's Apocalypse frescoes Pictures Pictures Pictures ). There are no words to describe it's beauty.

  • St. Patrick's Well: Pictures Within all Orvieto's attractive also a special mention to the Pozzo di San Patrizio (Saint Patrick's well), by Antonio da Sangallo, a stately work of hydraulic engineering built in the period 1527-1537., more ...»»  to assure water for the city during the wars and states of emergency.  The double helix staircase will let you walk down into the well (It is 62 meters deep and almost 13 meters in diameter, 248 steps for each ramp) and come back up again without retracing your steps.
