Orvieto (Umbria): pop. 30,000  [ MAP ] 

Winemaking in Orvieto dates back to very ancient times. The Etruscans understood that the cellars excavated in the tufa stone would be the perfect place for ageing the wine (the production zone includes Orvieto area and part of upper Lazio).

In the area are produced these types of wine:

- Orvieto Bianco DOC (Orvieto White DOC) that can be distinguished in Orvieto, Orvieto Classico and Orvieto Classico Superiore. It can be dry, pleasant or sweet.

- Rosso Orvietano (Orvieto Red Wine), bodied and flavored.
