The Basilica
dell'Osservanza is located about 2 km and half outside of the
city gates, on a hill from where a beautiful view of Siena can
be enjoyed. The Church has single nave with eight open chapels,
a presbitery and a dome.
Inside are
many works such as two statues of the Annunciation, a
glazed terracotta altarpiece by Andrea della Robbia, The
Pietą, a 16th century terracotta by Govanni di Paolo,
Madonna and Saints, an altarpiece by Maestro
dell'Osservanza(1454), St. Bernardine's portrait by
Pietro di Giovanni(1439).
Next is a small museum with tresured chorals,Jewelry and a
valuable wooden sculpture of "Mutilated Head of Christ carved by
Lando di Pietro in 1337
