Description: The museum is
hosted in the 14th century Palazzo Corsi and the art
collection is made up of extremely valuable paintings,
sculptures, ceramics, gold objects, knick-knacks, furniture,
small plaques, seals and fabrics dating from the fourteenth,
fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Among the artists are
Bernardo Daddi, Pietro Lorenzetti, Simone Martini, Masaccio,
Dosso Dossi, Filippino Lippi. Notable is the "St. Stefano"
by Giotto, the "Deposition" by Benozzo Gozzoli and the
"Sacred Family" by Beccafumi.
One of the outstanding features of the Horne collection is
the incredible variety of works and objects that share their
common display setting in a most harmonious manner. Of great
interest, as well, is the treasury of drawings and
engravings spanning the sixteenth through the nineteenth
centuries, the precious archives and rich library that could
not be but a part of the perfect reconstruction of a
well-to-do Renaissance man of culture's home, as desired by
Herbert Horne.
