Description: The Brancacci Chapel is a
chapel in the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence.
It was built around 1386 and preserves Renaissance frescos
by Masolino da Panicale, Masaccio and Filippino Lippi. The
fresco subject is the salvation of man through episodes of
St.Peter's life.
The museum path includes the "Cappella
dei Principi" dating back to 1568 and the "Sagrestia Nuova"(1520).
In the "Cappella dei Principi", are splendid polychrome
decorations and about one hundred reliquaries
belonging to the Treasure of St. Lorenzo. The Sagrestia
Nuova, a work by Michelangelo, Vasari and Ammannati, houses
the tombs of Medici's family. Of note are the allegories of
the Day, Night, Sunrise and Twilight made by Michelangelo,
as well as the Madonna with Child over the Sarcophagus of
Lorenzo and Giuliano of Medici's.
