Orvieto is situated in Central Italy,
between three regions, Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany, halfway between Rome
and Florence. Siena is an hour and a half drive by car, Pienza, Montepulciano, Todi, Assisi, Gubbio and Perugia are all easy day trips.
The City is perched on a tufa rock, 325 mtrs high, overlooking the Paglia river valley. Orvieto was an Etruscan City and had great importance
in medieval times. Nowadays, Orvieto is an extraordinary artistic and cultural center,

The Cathedral of Orvieto: Built in 1290 bc. is one of the
masterpieces of Italian gothic architecture. Numerous works of art. (An
inside chapel holds Signorelli's Apocalypse frescoes). | The Church of
San Giovenale: Romanesque - 1200 bc. - Rich interior with votive
frescos and works of art. | San Domenico: The church
preserves notable works of art, such as a beautiful 14th century wooden
crucifix attributed to a follower of G. Pisano. Several paintings of
Umbrian school, and a fine work by Arnolfo di Cambio. | Palazzo
del Capitano del Popolo: Very fine Romanesque-Gothic building. | "Faina"
Civic Museum: Interesting collection of Etruscan and Greek objects -
Pieces of exceptional quality. | "Opera del Duomo" Museum, it
preserves works of Simone Martini, Luca Signorelli and Andrea Pisano's
sculptures. On the ground floor is the "Emilio Greco" Museum. | San
Patrizio's Well: is a stately work of hydraulic engineering. It
is 62 meters deep and almost 13 meters in diameter. Descending 248 steps
the visitors can reach the bottom. | Torre del Moro: A medieval
tower 42 mtrs high, rising from the centre of Orvieto. Visitors will be
rewarded with a wonderful view from the top. | Etruscan
necropolis of "Crocefisso del Tufo": 6th century bc. - It shows
many tombs with etruscan writing. | "Orvieto underground":
Underground travel to discover tunnels, cisterns, and ancient oil-mills,
excavated by man. | Enoteca Regionale of Orvieto (wine
